EDISON, NJ–On Thursday evening, GMC Hoops traveled over to the Physical Education Center at Middlesex County College for the fourth night of play from the 2011 MCC Summer League. The site saw two contests that were played at 6:00 PM. East Brunswick rolled past Dunellen by the score of 55-26 while East Brunswick Tech cruised past Bishop Ahr by a 46-22 margin.

East Brunswick Rolls Past Dunellen, 55-26

The Bears, which have been one of the top teams at MCC for the past two years, picked up its second win of the season with a solid victory over Dunellen. Contributors to the victory included Owen Summerer, Joey Genco, Anthony Belgrave, and Carl Taylor.

East Brunswick jumped out to an 18-4 lead, and increased it to 24-6 on a 6-2 run that included a breakaway layup by Owen Summerer.  Tony McGuane tried to get Dunellen going with a three pointer from the left side to close the gap to 24-9, but EB added another basket for a 26-9 lead.

Dunellen got a kind roll on a foul line jumper at the 2:10 mark to pull within 11.  EB had a couple chances to add to its lead, but Summerer missed the front end of a one and one at the 2:00 mark, and then was called for traveling at the 1:29 mark after Anthony Belgrave hustled to save the ball from going out of bounds.  The Bears went into the intermission with the 15 point lead.

The Bears began the second half with a score at the 19:41 mark, and then a three pointer by Joey Genco at the 19:04 mark.  Genco then added a steal for a layup at the 18:41 mark for a 33-11 lead.  Carl Taylor then got on the board with a drive through the middle for a floater, and a 35-11 lead before EB got a three point play at the 17:10 mark for a 38-11 advantage.

Genco then scrapped with McGuane for a loose ball that forced a jump ball, but Dunellen got possession with 16 minutes remaining.  McGuane then fired a three from the right side at the 15:20 mark for the Destroyers first points of the second half, but the Bears responded with a basket and a foul by Taylor, who missed the bonus free throw for a 40-14 lead.

East Brunswick had a few chances to score over the next couple minutes, but was unable to finish while McGuane scored a breakaway layin at the other end for a 40-16 Bears lead at the 12:18 mark.  E.B. responded though with a three from the left side for a 43-16 advantage, but McGuane helped the Destroyers keep fighting with another triple for a 43-19 Bears lead at the 10:57 mark.

After EB missed a couple more chances to score, McGuane raced downcourt for another layin at the 10:00 mark for a 43-21 score.  After a Bears score on their next possession made it 45-21, both teams went up and down the court a couple times before Dunellen converted a three point play at the 7:24 mark for a 45-24 EB lead.

The Bears then closed the game with a 10-2 spurt for the 55-26 victory.

E.B. Tech Cruises Past Bishop Ahr, 46-22

East Brunswick Tech bounced back from its loss to Roselle Park on Tuesday with its third win of the summer, and first victory over a team other than Dunellen at MCC. The Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the first 12:11 as Mike Hardy and Dequan Calimese led the way.  Ahr would get on the board finally, but E.B. Tech still managed to increase its lead with an 8-4 run including a basket at the buzzer to take a 20-4 advantage into the brief intermission.

Over the first 14:45 of the second half, East Brunswick Tech continued to increase its lead with a 16-12 showing for a 36-16 score.  The Tigers added another score at the 5:00 mark before the Trojans scored to make it a 38-18 E.B. Tech lead.  Brey’on Walker forced a steal, and had a chance to score an easy layup, but missed.  The Tigers eventually picked up their teammate with a putback at the 2:10 mark for a 40-18 advantage, and then Walker redeemed himself with a layup at the 1:45 mark.

Both teams ended the game with four points each for a 46-22 E.B. Tech win.

GMC Hoops plans to be back out at Middlesex County College next week.
