South Plainfield Notches Nice Win At Rahway Summer League

Tigers Edge White Division Rival Woodbridge For First Win Of Summer

RAHWAY, NJ–On Tuesday night, the South Plainfield Tigers made a nice little baby step towards improving further next season with a 42-34 victory over GMC White Division rival, Woodbridge in the third night of action from the 2011 Rahway Summer League at Rahway High School.

SPHS, which won two more games this past season than it did in 2009-10, played very well defensively, and held a nine point, 32-23 lead with around four minutes to play. Woodbridge attempted to rally by fouling, and forcing the Tigers to go to the line. The result was a 7-1 spurt over the next few minutes to pull within 33-30 as South Plainfield called for time.

Following the timeout, the Tigers managed to hang on by making 9 of 11 from the line to score all of its remaining points in a 9-4 run to close out the Barrons for the eight point victory. It was the first win of the summer for SPHS, which lost to Edison and J.P. Stevens during the opening week of play two weeks ago.
