Former Highland Park Coach Sclafani To Coach EB Girls

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ–Earlier this week, GMC Hoops learned that former Highland Park varsity boys basketball coach, Tom Sclafani, has taken the head coaching position of the East Brunswick High School varsity girls basketball team.  Sclafani is replacing Katie Motusesky, who stepped down after coaching at EB for seven seasons.

Recently, Sclafani, had returned to the sidelines as the JV boys basketball coach at Highland Park.  Meanwhile, Dan Sclafani, his son, played hoops for East Brunswick, where he was a three year varsity player.  Sclafani was the varsity head coach at HPHS from 2003 to 2006.  He took over for Rocco Funari, and coached the team to its first state playoff berth in four seasons as well as its best record since 2002 back in the 2005-06 season.

During his tenure at Highland Park, Sclafani coached the likes of Mike Burwell, who later went on to Cardinal McCarrick before playing a year of post-graduate basketball at South Kent Prep in Connecticut, and two years at South Florida.  Burwell recently transferred to Towson University in Maryland.  Sclafani previously was the women’s head coach at Stevens Tech from 1998-2011 and was also an assistant coach at St. Francis College and the University of Scranton.
