COLONIA, NJ–Following Cardinal McCarrick’s win over Hillside in the first quarterfinal game, eighth seeded Colonia, a first round winner over ninth seeded South Plainfield, took on top seeded St. Mary’s of Elizabeth in the second quarterfinal round game in the 2011 Colonia JV Summer League playoffs at Colonia Middle School. The Junior Patriots jumped out to a 17-9 lead with 6:28 to go in the first half before St. Mary’s ended the period with a 13-0 run thanks to their fullcourt pressure for a 22-17 lead at the intermission. Colonia started the second half with a 9-0 run, and held the lead with a 33-30 advantage before the Junior Hilltoppers ended the game with a 14-6 spurt for the 44-39 victory.
