All State Basketball Running Fall H.S. Showdown

Two Day Clinic To Combine Instruction And Competition For Central Jersey HS Players

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–Recently, GMC Hoops was contacted by  Mars Mellish of All-State Basketball regarding an upcoming event at New Brunswick Middle School.  This coming weekend, All-State Basketball will be running a two-day basketball clinic.  The Fall High School Showdown will run for three hours on Saturday and three hours on Sunday at New Brunswick Middle School.

The clinic is open to only high school boys from around the Central Jersey area including the Middlesex, Monmouth, and Somerset counties.  The clinic will run both days from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  It will attempt to combine instruction with competition.  The clinic will focus on passing, dribbling, and shooting skills, but on a more advanced level.  There were also be 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 drills along with a three point shooting contest and slam dunk competition.  The cost to attend is $99.00.

Leading instruction in the clinic will be Mellish, a former standout from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick and John Celestand, a former hoops standout from Piscataway, who went on to play in the Big East at Villanova and for the Los Angeles Lakers.  Celestand’s teammate Justin Bailey, who went on to play at the University of Hartford, will also be in attendance as well as Curtis Bynes, an assistant coach on the 1994 Group IV State Championship Piscataway team, the last GMC school to win a state title.

There will also be a number of other former GMC players and high school standouts that will be participating in the event including:  David Capers, who teamed up with Mellish at St. Peter’s in 1994 and Mark Simko, who led South Amboy to its only GMC Gold Division title and GMCT Elite Eight berth back in 2008.  For more details on this event, and to register online, go to http://all-statebasketball.com/event-detail/?id=26.
