Weather Forecast–Woodbridge at 7:00 PM EDT on Thanksgiving Eve

A vast storm system that has produced heavy rains in the Mid-Atlantic and significant snowfall further north in New England, is now pushing out to sea. So far today, Northwestern Middlesex County has seen a little less than three tenths of an inch. Most of the rainfall fell on Tuesday as the region saw its biggest rainfall so far this November. South Plainfield has had a storm total of 1.18 inches, which is more than half the rain that has fallen so far this month (2.06 inches).

Temperatures have been mild for the most part with highs getting into the 50s and 60s over the past couple days. High on Tuesday was just under 64 degrees in Northwestern Middlesex County. Due to the cloudy conditions, the temperature hasn’t changed much. The diurnal temperature range was only four degrees. However, the mercury will take a tumble tonight has high pressure moves in, and ushers in cooler and drier air. See more details on the latest weather in the GWC Blog and Journal.

The forecast for Friday night at Woodbridge High School from the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly calls for clearing skies and colder conditions. Low is expected to be around 33 degrees after the temperature reaches 49 degrees on Wednesday afternoon. So, no need for rain gear, but bundle up because it is going to get quite cold in the second half.

Game Outlook

This could be a very special game. Both teams have had very successful seasons with Woodbridge finishing in a three way tie for second place in the tough GMC Red and reaching the semifinals of Central Jersey Group III before losing to Steinert of Hamilton (35-27) last week. Meanwhile, Colonia has only lost once in divisional play, and if Perth Amboy can defeat Carteret tomorrow, the Pats could gain a share of first place in the GMC White this season.

Both teams can make plays, but in different ways. Woodbridge likes to go more to the air while Colonia is geared toward the run. Kyle Anderson, who is Woodbridge’s all time leading passer has a number of targets in Anthony Nyers, who is the school’s all time leading receiver along with Cody Zalasar, Juan Bonilla, and Mika Graham. On the other side of the field, Colonia has Greg Jones, who has over 1,800 yards rushing. The Patriots also have a solid defense led by Christian Thomas.

The last time these two teams met over the Thanksgiving Holiday was two years ago when Woodbridge reached the semifinals of North Jersey Section 2 Group IV before losing to Ridge. The Barrons, who have dominated the series in recent years, won that matchup despite a good fight from its Turkey Day rival. These two teams usually play on the Friday or Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Colonia will need to use Jones on the ground to keep the ball away from Anderson and the Barron air attack. The Patriots defense will have to put in another solid effort while Woodbridge could use a big ground game from one of its big rushers, Isaiah Johnson and Duquan Bailey.
