GMC Gridiron–Thanksgiving Holiday Results

GMC Football Results From Thanksgiving Eve And Thanksgiving Day

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, GMC Gridiron saw several Turkey Day Holiday clashes involving GMC teams. On Thanksgiving Eve, we traveled over to Woodbridge High School and Priscoe Field to take in the 2011 edition of the Bragging Rights Game between Colonia and Woodbridge.

Behind the fine passing of Kyle Anderson and the great catches by Anthony Nyers and Cody Zalasar, the Barrons took a 23-6 lead in the third quarter. The Patriots, which were plagued by four turnovers in the contest, battled back thanks to two interceptions of Anderson. Trent Barneys and Greg Jones rushed for touchdowns to close the gap to 23-19, but Colonia was unable to get any closer thanks to two fourth quarter interceptions by the Barrons.

On Turkey Day, we headed over to Jay Doyle Field in East Brunswick to see the Bears take on Old Bridge in the latest edition of the Battle of Route 18. The Knights, which lead the series by a margin of 15-3 all time, jumped out to a 20-0 lead thanks to a short plunge by Chris Middleton, and big runs for touchdowns by both Aaron Ford and Vin Gargano, and never looked back. The Knights led by as much as 40-7 in the fourth quarter before the Bears got two late fourth quarter scores to close out the 40-20 OBHS victory.

After our featured GMC Gridiron Turkey Day game, we traveled over to Dominic Ciardi Field in Piscataway to see the final minutes of action between Franklin and Piscataway. The Chiefs led 20-13 late in the third quarter when they got the ball, and went on a drive that went into the fourth quarter before Tevin Shaw ran it in from five yards out midway through the period for a 27-13 lead. Franklin didn’t give up though. The Warriors responded quickly though with a 40 yard pass play down the Franklin sideline to the P-Way 14. A minute later, Kai Morgan ran it in for a TD, but the Chiefs blocked the extra point for a 27-19 lead with 3:45 to go.

Piscataway would put the game away though as Shaw put together another huge run, and later scored for a touchdown and a 34-19 lead. Franklin tried to rally again with another long pass play to get to the Chiefs 20 yard line, but couldn’t get closer than the 12 as P-Way got the ball back on downs and ran out the clock for the two score victory.
