GMC Hoops Game Notes–Roselle Catholic vs. St. Benedict’s–December 18, 2011

WEST ORANGE, NJ–Below are some notes from the nightcap game of the final day of action at the 2011 Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic at West Orange High School between St. Benedict’s and Roselle Catholic. Coming off a thrilling 67-65 victory over Plainfield the night before, St. Benny’s opened the game with a 20-8 lead, and led by as many as 26 en route to a 70-48 victory. Tyler Ennis led the way for the winners with 17 points and 5 steals.

First Quarter

Tyler Ennis scores four points down the stretch of the opening period including a jumper from the right side as time was running out for a 20-8 lead.

Second Quarter

7:45–RC–Chris Gross opens he scoring with a field goal for the Lions to close the gap to 20-10 in favor of St. Benny’s.

7:11–RC–Nikko Velez dishes out a nice assist to #20 for layup, and a 20-12 St. Benedict’s lead.

659–RC–Jameel Warney blocks a shot by #24

6:16–STB–Velez hustles back to block two handed dunk attempt by Ennis, but Melvin Johnson is there to score on the follow for a 22-12 lead.

5:13–STB–Kamal Richards tips in a score for a 24-12 lead.

4:53–RC–timeout–follows steal for breakaway layin by Richards for a 26-12 lead.

0:00–STB–gets a foul line jumper to end the half with a 35-22 lead.  Roselle Catholic had closed to 33-22 thanks to a 10-6 run.

Third Quarter

St. Benedict’s outscored Roselle Catholic by a margin of 18-13 including a jumper by Johnson, and scores from Richards and Ennis to take a 51-35 lead.  Warney led Roselle Catholic with several scores including a dunk and a three point play.

Fourth Quarter

7:30–STB–Johnson opens the fourth with a jumper from the right wing for a 53-35 lead.
7:15–STB–Kamal Richards swipes a steal for a layup, and a 55-35 lead.
7:01–RC–Warney converts a three point play to close the gap to 55-38.
6:35–STB–Richards scores on a layup off a steal for a 60-38 lead.
6:20–STB–Isaiah Watkins throws down a two handed jam for a 62-38 lead.
6:00–STB–Ennis swipes a steal for a layup, and a 64-38 edge.
RC closes the game with a 10-8 run as Eddie Harris had a few scores to finish the game for the Lions.  Caesar Dejesus scored on a jam off a steal for the Grey Bees.
