SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Monday afternoon, GMC Hoops made the short trip across town to South Plainfield High School, and the Cotoia Gymnasium for the second game of a quadrupleheader of opening round games at the 2011 Anthony J. Cotoia Holiday Tournament.
In the contest, Monroe was taking on Hunterdon Central out of the Skyland Conference’s tough Delaware Division. It was quite a contest with the Falcons overcoming a 27-19 halftime deficit, and a 37-30 third quarter deficit to win in overtime, 68-64. Nick Isola (12 points and 12 rebounds) played a key role in the overtime by scoring 8 points including 4 of 4 from the line and getting a blocked shot.
Ryan Genevieve led all scorers with a game high 25 points for Monroe while fellow senior Victor Sorrento tallied a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hunterdon Central was led by Evan Klimchak with 18 points while Mitch Miller chipped in with 13 points and Donato Scaramella added 11 points.
