Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout To Take Place On January 21st

J.F. Kennedy Will Represent GMC In Nine Game Showcase At Montgomery And Notre Dame

MONTGOMERY, NJ–Earlier this week, GMC Hoops learned in an article from MyCentralJersey.com that a nine game showcase at Montgomery and Notre Dame High School that is being billed as the Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout will take place on Saturday, January 21st.

Teams from the Skyland Conference, Colonial Valley Conference, Greater Middlesex Conference, and the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference will be competing in the event. J.F. Kennedy will be representing the GMC when it takes on Hunterdon Central at 1:30 PM at Notre Dame High School. The showcase has taken on special meaning since Hillsborough head coach, Ian Progin has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer. Cancer has also affected the GMC community in recent years including former Sayreville head coach, Gus Jaworski, and former Monroe player, Ryan Walp, who died in November 2008.

Montgomery head coach, Kris Grundy, Notre Dame head coach, Bob Turco, and Progin have all been a big help to GMC Hoops through the years as well as Chris Banos (J.F. Kennedy) and Anthony Melesurgo (Bound Brook). Chris Fox, who helps out with Hillsborough, and works with James Dimino of Immaculata to put together the Immaculata Fall League the past three years has also become a good friend. Hunterdon Central JV coach, Chris Walker and I coached together for one season at South Plainfield. So, I’m happy to help spread the word and promote this event for them. Below is the schedule at both sites:
