BRANCHBURG, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Raritan Valley Community College to see the Lions in action against the Falcons of Lackawanna Community College from Pennsylvania. It was another barnburner as the two teams went at it for 40 minutes. Neither team could pull away from the other. The Falcons appeared to have the game sown up with an 18-6 run over a 9:18 span to take a 75-63 lead with 4:50 remaining. However, led by former J.P. Stevens standout, Marvin Crawford, the Lions roared back with a 12-1 tear over the next 3:53 to pull within one with less than a minute to go. Lackawanna was able to hang on though for the 79-75 victory. Timothy Christian’s Kristian Svendsen had some good minutes in the game as well for RVCC. Raritan Valley drops to 1-4 overall with the loss. Here are some notes from the game.
Pre-Game Notes
Raritan Valley has started the year with a 1-3 record including a 1-2 mark in the Garden State Athletic Conference. RVCC plays in the Division II portion of Region 19 against opponents such as Essex County College, Mercer County College, and the County College of Morris. Middlesex County College plays in Division III. The Lions have a number of former players from the Greater Middlesex Conference.

These two teams played a classic contest at RVCC two years ago with the Lions winning on a shot in the final seconds. Lackawanna is located in Pennsylvania near Scranton. This is the first home game of the season for Raritan Valley, which had the start of its season delayed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The Lions will also host Mercer C.C. next Thursday night.
