GMC Gridiron–Game Capsules–Week Four–Saturday Afternoon

Four Games Close Out Week Four Action On GMC Gridiron

SOUTH PLAINFIELD,  NJ–On Saturday afternoon, Week Four action on the GMC Gridiron will conclude with four games.  Two of the contests are crossovers between the GMC Blue and Shore Conference.  The Greater Middlesex Conference is 7-6 overall versus teams from the Shore, but the Blue Division has played the best with a 4-2 mark after a solid Week #2 effort.  One matchup is out of the GMC White Division while the other contest involves Cardinal McCarrick, playing an independent schedule, taking on St. Elizabeth of Delaware.  Below are capsules on the games with predictions:

Perth Amboy (0-2) at Woodbridge (1-2)–This is a neighborhood rivalry game that has been dominated by the Barrons in recent years including a 41-12 rout early last season.  The Panthers had a bye week two weeks ago sandwiched between losses to Middletown North (40-0) and Colonia (35-14).  Meanwhile, Woodbridge has played very tough with single digit losses to Carteret (14-7) and Bishop Ahr (19-18) before defeating Colts Neck (21-12) on the road.  Despite a 1-2 start, the Barrons have actually outscored their opponents by a margin of 46-45 while Amboy has been outscored 75-14>  Zahneer Shuler, Zaire Robinson, Tyler Smith, Quassim Glover, and Keshaun Henry are also basketball standouts leading the Barrons on the gridiron.  Percy Martin and Ryan Alcott (who played hoops as a freshman) lead the charge on defense at LB and DE respectively.  Perth Amboy is led by Larry Johnson and Tristan Rock.  Barrons will win easily here.  Prediction:  Woodbridge wins, 38-17.

St. Elizabeth (DE) (1-3) at Cardinal McCarrick (0-4)–For the second week in a row, McCarrick will be hosting a team from Delaware in a Saturday afternoon game at Waterfront Park.  Last week, the Eagles were much more competitive, but still fell short in a 20-2 loss against Moyer Academy.  So far this season, the Eagles have only been able to muster one touchdown, and have been outscored by a margin of 141-8.  Meanwhile, St. Elizabeth has played a schedule of all Delaware teams with a 12-8 victory over Delmar two weeks ago.   Located in Wilmington, the Vikings have lost three of four, and have been outscored by a margin of 111-38 according to MaxPreps. St. Elizabeth is scheduled to play Moyer on October 25th.   The Vikings get the edge here.  Prediction:  St. Elizabeth wins, 24-6.

Asbury Park (0-3) at Middlesex (3-0)–Ok.  So, we haven’t been on the Jays bandwagon for a couple weeks.  Two weeks ago, we predicted the Jays to come up short against defending Central Jersey Group I champs, Point Pleasant Beach.  Last week, we predicted Middlesex to fall against South River.  Both times, the Jays came up winners by outscoring those foes by a combined margin of 55-26 including a 41-20 victory over the Rams.  Now, Asbury Park comes by to pay a visit.  In recent years, the Blue Bishops have had their way against the Jays like the rest of the Class B Central Division.  Not this year though.  Two weeks ago, Asbury Park got a taste of this year’s GMC Blue with a blowout loss to Metuchen at home (34-6).  The Bishops also fell to a Mater Dei squad (30-20) that was outscored by Dunellen (50-38).  Middlesex has been one of the nice surprises coming out of the Blue with the likes of Dennis Brodnax, A.J. Abate, Kayshawn Wilson, Anthony Marshall, Paul Meixner, and Matt Hode leading the way.  Jays will win here.  Prediction:  Middlesex wins, 24-6.

South River (1-2) at Keansburg (1-2)–The Rams need to rebound on the road at Keansburg to stay in contention for a Central Jersey Group I playoff spot.  Last week, South River was soundly defeated by Middlesex at home (41-20).  Two weeks ago though, the Rams were one of four GMC Blue teams to knock off squads from the Shore by defeating Keyport (26-12).  Both teams are 1-2 on the season as the Titans managed to hold on to edge a game Highland Park two weeks ago (22-20).  In its three games, Keansburg has been outscored 107-34 while South River has only been outscored 62-46 in its games.  While these teams have not played a common opponent, the Titans and Keyport both played Shore Regional.  The Blue Devils won both games, but defeated Keansburg by a wider margin.  The Rams have been led by the likes of Sean Darrar, Nick Lepore, Richie Leogrande, Mario Nigro, and Cyrus Byrd.  Expect South River to get back on the right track here with a win.  Prediction:  South River wins, 34-6.

GMC Gridiron plans to have Friday Night’s picks for Week #4 posted shortly.
