GMC Hoops Game Notes–#28 Wardlaw-Hartridge @ #21 Edison–GMCT Play-In Round–February 14, 2015

EDISON, NJ–On Saturday afternoon, GMC Hoops traveled over to Edison High School on lunch break from work to see the 21st seeded Eagles host 28th seeded Wardlaw-Hartridge in a 2015 GMCT Boys Play-in round game. Led by guard Brandon Radd, who had a game high 17 points including 3 treys, Edison defeated Wardlaw, 61-42 to advance. The Eagles had four different players score in double figures including: Radd, Juston Payne (12 points), Ish Treadwell (12 points), and Al Newcombe (10 points). Mike Newman and Nick Palko each had team high for Wardlaw with 10 points. Special thanks to Edison coach Charlie Mohr for providing the info. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

4:00–Arrive, and Edison leads Wardlaw 5-4 after a ft by Garrett Racz.

3:30 left in the first quarter and Edison calls timeout after a three from the left wing by Racz gives Wardlaw a 7-5 lead.

0:00–End of first quarter and Edison leads 9-8 thanks two a pair of fts by Ish Treadwell. Wardlaw had 4 points from Racz, 3 from Scott Hargrove and one from Brendan O’Brien in the frame. The Rams had two threes and made 2 of 4 FTs in the quarter. Edison had 4 from Juston Payne, three from Brandon Radd and two from Ish Treadwell. Eagles had 2 FGs, a three, and made 2 of 4 from the line.


Second Quarter

3:58 left in the first half and Edison leads 19-8 on threes by Justin Turner and John Zanfordino as well as a pull-up jumper by Brandon Radd for a 10-0 Eagles run.

Timeout with 3:40 left in the first half and Wardlaw calls time after a three from the right wing by Radd makes it 22-8.

0:00–Game has gone to the half and Edison leads 26-18 after Wardlaw ends half on a 10-4 tear including a putback score by Nick Palko. Edison outscored Wardlaw 17-10 in the quarter. Eagles had 5 each from Radd and John Zanfordino, a three from Justin Turner, and two each from Payne and Tatawally. Wardlaw got 4each from Mike Newman and Nick Palko and two from John Pohopin. Wardlaw had 4 FGs and made 2 of 6 FTs. Edison had 3 3s, three FGs, and made 2 of 2 from the line.


Third Quarter

Edison outscored Wardlaw by a 19-9 margin in the third thanks to Payne and Teadwell who each scored 6 points and Radd who scored five. Wardlaw was led by Palko who had 4 points while Luke Romeo hit a three. The Rams had 3 FGs and a trey in the third while the Eagles had 6 FGs, two threes, and 1 of 2 FTs from the foul line.


Fourth Quarter

0:00–Edison wins 61-42. Edison scoring for the game. The Eagles had 4 players score in double figures led by guard, Brandon Radd, who had a game high 17. Juston Payne and Ish Treadwell each added 12 while Al Newcombe chipped in with 10. Wardlaw scoring for the game. Mike Newman and Nick Palko tied for team high with 10 points each. There were 10 three pointers in the game with Edison getting the lion’s share with an 18-12 edge in points scored from beyond the arc. Edison also had a 17-13 edge in two point field goals made. The Eagles were also 9 of 13 from the foul line while Wardlaw went only 4 of 12. Wardlaw had more team fouls, 16-11. Edison outscored Wardlaw in each of the 4 periods, but really took control of the game in the middle periods with a 36-19 edge. Both teams had 7 different players score, but the Eagles had more players score in double figures (4-2).
