Despite East Brunswick’s Rob Ukawuba sitting out, the Highlanders won their first Division I post-season game in school history by the score of 84-77.
Trailing 52-47 in the second half, NJIT went on a decisive 13-0 tear capped by a three pointer from Union Catholic’s Damon Lynn, and a dunk from the left baseline by odera nweke to take a 60-52 lead with 8:06 to play. NJIT extended that advantage to as many as 11 points in the second half before UNH tried to rally with several three pointers that closed the gap to 83-77 with 13.6 seconds to play, but the Wildcats ran out of time.
Lynn led NJIT with 25 points while former St. Anthony’s standout, Tim Coleman chipped in with 23. Jaleen Smith led UNH in a losing cause with 17 points while Matt Miller chipped in with 12.
