Woodbridge Falls to Middletown North at Linden

LINDEN, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops returned to Linden High School for another night of action at the 2016 Linden Summer League. In the nightcap game of the tripleheader at Linden on Thursday, Woodbridge, the only GMC team in the Tuesday/Thursday Division of the Linden Summer League, took on Middletown North of the Shore Conference.

Led by Kemari Persol, who scored 8 straight points in the first period, Woodbridge took a 13-2 lead at the 3:06 mark of the first. Middletown North would rally to pull within four on several occasions in the second before Persol struck for a three with several seconds to go in the first half for a 29-22 lead at the intermission.

The Lions came out strong at the start of the second half with a 15-5 tear over the initial 6:11 of the third for a 37-34 lead. Woodbridge would battle back again with a three at the 3:30 mark to tie the game again, but then Middletown North scored 5 of the next 7 points to take a 42-39 lead at the two minute mark of the third.

Led by Persol and Curtis Nesbit, who sank a pair of free throws to end the third, and then sank a jumper at the 7:30 mark of the fourth, the Barrons were able to tie the game at 45-45, but Middletown North took over from there. Connecting on four threes, and converting a traditional three point play, the Lions outscored the Barrons by a 15-3 margin down the stretch for the 12 point win.
