J.T. Vento Leads Chargers Past South River

MONROE, NJ–On Sunday evening, GMC Hoops traveled down to the Monroe Sports Center for the start of Week Five action in the 2016 MSC Summer League. The featured game was between two neighborhood rivals as Spotswood took on South River at 6:55 PM.

The Chargers had put together a 10-0 run towards the end of the first half for a 27-16 lead before South River ended the half on a 7-0 run to close the gap to four going into the intermission. However, the Rams wouldn’t get any closer as Spotswood opened the half on an 8-0 run that included the first of two dunks by J.T. Vento for a 35-23 lead.

South River would never really recover after that as the Chargers outscored the Rams by a margin of 44-19 over the last 20 minutes of the contest. J.T. Vento led the way with an aggressive style that had him attacking the rack every chance he could get. Younger brother, Matt Vento also contributed with several scores along with a couple trips to the line while Andrew Fuzesi and Abdul Nieskens connected on threes.

Vinnie Guardiola and Justin Dekovics also got into the act as the Chargers finished the game by scoring 22 of the last 31 points. Derrick Whitaker, Matt Pietryzk, and soon to be freshman, Jayvon Taylor stood tall in defeat for South River, which dropped to 4-2 with the loss while Spotswood improved to 2-5. Below is the final score of the game:
