Here are final cut highlights from the action in Holmdel’s last second win over Monroe at the Monroe Sports Center Fall League.
In the first game of the Thursday night tripleheader at the 2016 Monroe Sports Center Fall League, the Monroe Falcons took on Holmdel in what turned out to be a very exciting contest that was decided in the final seconds. Holmdel first broke away from a 10-10 tie with the final ten points of the first half or a 20-10 lead at the break.
Monroe opened the second half with rally by scoring 18 of the next 23 points over a span of 8:10 to take a 28-25 lead. Mike Kides netted four of his five threes on the night during this stretch. Hassan Reid also chipped in with a couple scores. Holmdel retook control of the game again with an 11-2 spurt over the ensuing 8:30 for a 36-30 lead with less than three and a half minutes to go.
The Falcons fought back again though by scoring 8 of the next 10 points including a layup by Reid and two threes by Luke Patel including one with 23 seconds left to tie the score at 38-38. After Holmdel turned the ball over with 12 seconds to play, the Hornets managed to capitialize on a Monroe miscue on its own backcourt for a layup with five seconds left for the 40-38 win.
