Monroe Sports Center Fall League–Results–October 6, 2016

Timothy Christian Registers Impressive Win; Monroe and South Amboy Lose

MONROE, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to the Monroe Sports Center for the second time this fall to take in action from the Monroe Sports Center Fall League. There were three games on tap and all of them involved GMC teams.

In the first contest, Holmdel broke a 10-10 tie against Monroe by scoring the last 10 points of the first half for a 20-10 lead at the intermission. The Falcons, led by sophomore Mike Kides rallied back with a 18-5 tear over the first 8:10 of the second half for a 28-25 lead. Kides, who netted five threes on the night, had four of them during the comeback.

Over the next 8:30 of the contest, Holmdel battled back though with an 11-2 spurt capped by two layups and a pair of free throws for a 36-30 lead with 3:20 remaining. Monroe fought back again with a layup by Hassan Reid and two threes by Luke Patel including one with 23 seconds left in regulation that tied the score at 38-38. Holmdel then turned the ball over with 12 seconds left to give Monroe a chance to win.

Unfortunately for Falcons fans, it wasn’t to be. Instead, Monroe turned the ball right back over to Holmdel in its backcourt, and the Hornets converted the miscue into a layup with five seconds to play for the 40-38 victory. In the second game of the GMC Hoops tripleheader at the MSC, Timothy Christian took on Jackson Memorial in a small school versus big school match-up.

The Tigers of Timothy Christian weren’t at all intimidated by the Jaguars from Ocean County. As a matter of fact, TCS scored perhaps the most impressive win of the fall for the GMC. Led by a solid team effort consisting of contributions from Robert Saydee, Pierce Kokosinski, Will Clemmons, A.J. Myha, and Louis Roche, the Tigers overcame a 19-13 first half deficit with a 46-19 surge over a span of 27:15 to take a 59-38 lead with 2:03 left.

From there, Timothy Christian coasted to a 14 point victory. Meanwhile, South Amboy was taking on the Academy of Urban Leadership from Perth Amboy on an adjacent court. The Guvs trailed the Jaguars by a score of 11-2 with 5:35 to go in the first half, and just weren’t able to get going offensively as AUL went on to lead by as many as 15 late in the game before winning by a dozen. Below are all the results from Thursday night action at MSC:
