Here are highlights from the action in 10th ranked North Brunswick’s upset of top ranked Sayreville on opening night of the 2016-17 boys basketball season in North Brunswick.

In the nightcap of the GMC Hoops JV/Varsity doubleheader, top ranked Sayreville took on tenth ranked North Brunswick in what turned out to be a real barnburner of a game.

Sayreville scored 12 of the first 16 points including a dunk by Ryan O’Leary and two threes by Henny Mautes, increased the lead to 33-20 at one point in the first half, and led 45-35 at halftime. However, North Brunswick would overcome all obstacles to tie the game at 70-70 after two FTs by Quadir Butler.

In the first overtime, North Brunswick scored first and appeared to have Sayreville on the ropes, but the Bombers battled back as Xavier Townes took control with a layup as he was fouled with 38 seconds left and one of two from the line with three seconds to tie the game at 79-79 and force a second overtime.

The Bombers would draw first blood in the second overtime, but with Elijah Clark, Jahsim Floyd, Jayson DeMild, and Ryan O’Leary fouling out, the Raiders were able to pull of the 91-86 upset by scoring 12 of the last 18 points for the win.

Jordan Salisbury led the Raiders with 20 points while Adryan Salazar chipped in with 18. Quadir Butler chipped in with 17 points including a perfect 6 of 6 from the line in the extra sessions. Xavier Townes led all scorers with 23 points for Sayreville while Ryan O’Leary chipped in with 21.
