ROSELLE, NJ–In the nightcap game of the 2017 Eric LeGrand Classic, fifth ranked Sayreville took on Gill St. Bernard’s of the Skyland Conference at Roselle Catholic High School. The Bombers got off to a quick start scoring the first five points, but Gill rallied with a 15-0 tear to take a 10 point lead and never relinquished it.
Sayreville got within two points on a number of occasions the rest of the way including 32-30 after a three pointer by Ryan O’Leary, but were never able to tie or overtake Gill. The Knights were able to get a three pointer by T.J. Chaney as he was fouled, and gradually built a double digit lead en route to a 58-49 victory.
Paul Mulcahy led the winners with a game high 14 points while Chaney, Alex Shachne, and Evan Storch each chipped in with 9 points. Henny Mautes, who scored 9 of his points in the first quarter, ended up with 12 along with O’Leary and Jahsim Floyd while Xavier Townes chipped in with 11. Below are game notes from the action:
