GMC Hoops Slideshow–January 9, 2017–#10 East Brunswick @ Bishop Ahr–Crossover Clash

Here is a slideshow of photos from the action in Bishop Ahr’s win over #10 East Brunswick at the start of the fourth week of the 2016-17 GMC boys basketball season.

Bishop Ahr and 10th ranked East Brunswick went at it in a back and forth low scoring battle that went down to the wire. Both teams battled through adversity with the Trojans were playing without Sean Kudelka and Kieran Hodder while East Brunswick struggled from the perimeter during the contest.

The Trojans trailed early on 6-3, but then took the lead for good with a 6-0 run that included a layup by Simon Llaguno (6 points) and two scores from Deontae Crawford (11 points) to make the score 9-6 early in the second. Leading 16-11 at the half, Bishop Ahr got the first points of the third on a layup from Alex Santiago (12 points) to take its largest lead of the game.

East Brunswick stormed back though with a 13-7 rally that included several scores by Ezra Levitt (6 points) and a bucket by Gil Wyman (10 points) to pull within one at 25-24 at the end of the third. After Alex Guketlov netted a three pointer to put Ahr up 28-24 with 5:54 remaining, the Bears scored 7 of the next 11 points including a score by Dante Ralph to close within one again at 32-31 with 2:33 remaining in regulation.

Following a made free throw by BGA, East Brunswick then tied the game at 33-33 on a pull-up jumper by Wyman with 1:19 to play in the fourth. Moments later though, Santiago netted a deep three from the left side of the floor for a 36-33 advantage. EB pulled within one again at 36-35 with six seconds to go on a nice drive and dish by Joe Sampson (6 points) to Dante Ralph (6 points).

The Bears were unable to get any closer though as Santiago was fouled and made both ends of the bonus, and Ahr withstood a last second shot attempt that went in and out as time expired for a 38-35 victory.
