Ramblers Pull Away in 4th to Defeat Rams

SOUTH RIVER, NJ–After losing the Battle of the Bayway to Perth Amboy on Monday night, the sixth ranked Carteret Ramblers were looking to rebound when it returned to GMC Blue Division play against South River on Wednesday night

The return wasn’t easy for the Ramblers either. Playing on the road in the Rams gym, Carteret had its hands full against a squad that has won two of its three games at home this season. South River jumped out to a 13-10 first quarter lead, and led 28-26 at the half, and 40-38 after three periods.

However, the Ramblers found a way to win this tough contest with a 20-11 showing in the fourth quarter to post a 58-51 victory. Five Carteret players scored including four in double figures. Isaiah Daniels-Porter led the way with a team high 17 points along with 8 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Jemar Jordan (11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals), Zemar Brake (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist), and Nasseir Moore (11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and a rebound) all chipped in with 11 points while Kahir Raymond added 8 points along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Derrick Whitaker led the way for the Rams in defeat with 18 points, which leaves him just three points shy of 700 for his career already. Whitaker also collected 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist. Mike DeSantis chipped in with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist.

Big man, Matthew Pietrzyk chipped in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, a block, and an assist. South River had six different players score in the contest. The Rams outscored the Ramblers by a margin of 12-3 from beyond the arc while Carteret enjoyed a 46-34 edge in points scored from within the arc, and a 9-5 margin from the free throw line.

South River had a 29-26 edge in rebounds and a 13-10 advantage in steals while Carteret had more assists (14-9) and blocks (3-1). The Ramblers outscored the Rams in two of the four periods with the third ending up knotted at 12-12. Carteret held South River to 10 points below its season scoring average in the game.

The Rams did likewise to the Ramblers by limiting them to three points below their scoring average for the season. With the win, Carteret improved to 9-2 on the season including a 6-0 mark in the GMC Blue. Meanwhile, South River, which lost its third straight game, dropped to 3-7 overall on the season including a 2-4 mark in divisional play.

With Bishop Ahr winning tonight, Carteret maintains a two game lead in the Blue Division. Both teams return to action on Friday with Carteret traveling to Spotswood for a 6:00 PM contest while South River hosts Bishop Ahr for a 5:30 PM contest.
