GMC Hoops Highlights–March 12, 2017–Sayreville vs. Franklin–Group 4 Girls State Final

Here are highlights from the action in the 2017 NJSIAA Group 4 Girls State Championship between the Central Jersey champion, Sayreville, and the North Jersey Section 2 champion, Franklin at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

Franklin jumped out to a 21-14 first quarter lead, and then put together a 15-4 showing in the second period for a 36-18 lead at the half. The Lady Warriors, which scored many of their points in transition and in the paint, scored 8 of the first 13 points of the third to take a 44-23 lead.

From there, Franklin continued to pull away with a 24-13 surge over the last 12:45 of the contest for a 68-36 victory. Monique Davis-Campbell led the Lady Warriors with 19 points and 5 rebounds while Camille Gray added 14 points and 5 boards. Diamond Miller chipped in with a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds along with 7 blocked shots.

Isi Enahoro led Sayreville in defeat with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Patrice Harding chipped in with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist while Morenike Akinrefon added 6 points. Sayreville finished its season at 29-3 including a GMC White Championship and a GMCT crown.

Franklin improved to 23-7 on the season, and advanced to the NJSIAA Girls Tournament of Champions, where it is seeded fourth, and will take on Group 3 State Champion, Pascack Valley in the quarterfinals.
