NEPTUNE, NJ–A lot of changes and new faces at Cardinal McCarrick since the 2011-12 season ended in the state playoffs against Non-Public B South champion, and state runner-up, Gill St. Bernards back in March. Gone is long time head coach, Joe Lewis, and several players from last season’s team including Marques Townes (St. Joseph’s), Jonathan Rodriguez (Bound Brook), Alonzo Hamilton (Linden), Carlos Morales (Perth Amboy), and Anthony Manning (Sayreville). However, the team still has a lot of players returning from a JV team that seeded 11th in the East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament. In addition, the Eagles got some much needed help in the middle with a transfer from St. Patrick’s. McCarrick played very competitively against a Jackson Memorial squad that has reached the Central Jersey Group IV championship game each of the past two seasons, but came up short.
