GMC Hoops Highlights–March 5, 2014–South River @ South Hunterdon–CJ Group I Quarterfinals

Here are the highlights from the action in the Central Jersey Group I Quarterfinals between 6th seeded South River and 3rd seeded South Hunterdon on Wednesday night. Trailing 26-16 midway through the second quarter, South River ended the first half with a 17-5 tear including two threes by Matt Martinez and two more by Patrick Genthe (9 points) along with two free throws by D’Ondre Moore to take a 33-31 lead at the half. From there, the game was a back and forth battle as the Rams went blow for blow with the Eagles before prevailing in overtime with an 11-4 tear for the 75-67 win.

Martinez ended up with 33 points including five threes to surpass the single season record for three pointers set by Cardinal McCarrick’s Vince Rosario. Sean Darrar chipped in with 14 points while Richie Leogrande added 10 points including a clutch three late in regulation to tie the score at 60-60, and then scored a couple times in the extra session to help the Rams get the win. Jake Whitaker pumped in 26 in a losing cause for South Hunterdon while Josh Phillips chipped in with 14 while Devon Troutman added 14 for the Eagles.
