GMC Hoops Highlights–January 11, 2017–Wardlaw @ Piscataway Tech–Gold Division Clash

Here are highlights from the action in Wardlaw’s win over Piscataway Tech during Week 4 of the Greater Middlesex Conference’s boys basketball season. GMC Hoops traveled over to Piscataway Tech High School for the first time this season to see the Raiders in action against Wardlaw-Hartridge in a GMC Gold Division Clash.

Wardlaw broke away from a 2-2 tie at the 6:25 mark by going on a 10-2 run highlighted by scores from Scott Hargrove, Shalon Wallace, and Ryan Petela to take a 12-6 lead before Taquan Smith scored the last of his six points for a 12-8 Wardlaw lead heading into the second.

P-Way Tech drew within three at 18-15 on a three pointer from the left corner by Daniel Peacock at the 3:08 mark of the second, but Wardlaw answered by scoring 8 of the last 11 points including a bank shot from the left low block by Raphael Genty, and a putback by Hargrove before the buzzer for a 26-18 halftime lead.

The third quarter began with the Raiders of P-Way Tech closing within five after scoring the 5 of the first 7 points of the second half including a basket by Branden Barnes for a 28-23 Wardlaw lead with 6:07 to go in the third. Piscataway Tech eventually got within two at 30-28 thanks to a couple free throws by Barnes.

The Raiders wouldn’t get any closer though as Wardlaw ended the third on an 8-2 spurt including two threes by Petela for a 38-30 lead, and then scored the first four points of the fourth for a 12 point lead. The Rams eventually led 47-32 with 2:05 to play after getting another three from Petela as well as two free throws from Genty. P-Way Tech then ended the game on an 11-2 tear for the 49-43 Wardlaw win.

Hargrove led the Rams with a game high 16 points while Petela chipped in with 15. Chris Zambonino led Piscataway Tech with 8 points.
