Falcons and Knights Representing GMC in Showcase at Brookdale CC on January 4th
Sean Williams of Old Bridge shown here battling for a rebound against Tahjay Moore of New Brunswick in the GMCT Quarterfinals this past February, will lead the Knights against Marlboro at the inaugural Shore Classic Showcase at Brookdale College on January 4, 2020.
LINCROFT, NJ—It will be a busy weekend for the St. Joseph’s Falcons to start the new year. Prior to its showdown with neighborhood foe, St. Thomas Aquinas at the 2020 SFIC Festival at Kean University on January 5th, St. Joe’s will be competing along with fellow GMC Red Division member Old Bridge at the inaugural Shore Classic Showcase to be held at Brookdale Community College on Saturday, January 4th.
St. Joseph’s will open the event by taking on CBA of Lincroft, which is just down the road from Brookdale, at 12:00 PM. After Holmdel faces off with Franklin of Somerset County and the Skyland Conference at 1:45 PM, Old Bridge will take the floor to play Marlboro at 3:30 PM. Both St. Joseph’s and Old Bridge figure to be in the mix for the 2020 GMCT Championship as well as Red Division title.
The Falcons and Colts are long time rivals in Non-Public A South, and very rarely play each other during the regular season. The last time that these two schools played each other was March 2, 2012 when the Falcons, led by Temple bound Quenton DeCosey and freshman Karl Anthony Towns defeated the Colts, 47-32 en route to its first of three Non-Public A State Championships and TOC appearances.
The contests between St. Joseph’s and CBA and Old Bridge and Marlboro highlight two days of games. Five games on Saturday, January 4th and five more on Sunday, January 5th. Ten of the teams participating are from the Shore Conference while other parts of the state are represented as well with the likes of Columbia, Irvington, and Newark West Side (Super Essex Conference), Franklin and Rutgers Prep (Skyland Conference), Don Bosco Prep (Big North Conference), Patrick School National and Peddie (Prep).
