North Brunswick Returns To Its Winning Ways With A 71-55 Win Over Woodbridge

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ–After losing 3 of its last 4 games, the North Brunswick Raiders needed a win to get their feet back on solid ground. They received just that when they secured a 71-55 triumph over the Woodbridge Barrons at NBTHS.

In the first quarter, North Brunswick and Woodbridge would duel to a 10-10 square-off, when all of a sudden, the home team would take off. North Brunswick would go on a 20-4 run from that point right through the second quarter. With a halftime lead of 35-24 – and that’s only because the Barrons’ Gerard Bullock (11 points, 7 rebounds) hit a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer, the Raiders were firmly in control.

Quarter number three saw Woodbridge close to within 11 a couple of times, but could get no further. Senior Michael Cole scored 8 of his 10 points in the third, and senior C.J. Brathwaite (17 points) chipped in another 4 points to help the effort. That effort would give North Brunswick a 52-38 lead going into the fourth, despite Anthony Graham scoring 10 of his 17 points in the third for Woodbridge.

At that point, Brathwaite and Justin Morgan (17 points, 9 rebounds) would close the deal, and give the Raiders their 10th win of the season. With the victory, North Brunswick improves to 10-7 overall, and 8-5 in the GMC White while Woodbridge slips to 4-16 overall, and 2-11 in divisional play.

Team 1 2 3 4 Total
North Brunswick (10-7) 21 14 17 19 71
Woodbridge (4-16) 10 14 14 17 55

High scores for Woodbridge: Anthony Graham (17 points); Gerard Bullock (11 points)

North Brunswick: C.J. Brathwaite (17 points); Justin Morgan (17 points); Jeff Ashamole (13 points, 10 rebounds); Michael Cole (10 points)

I have been away from the team for quite a while, but not long enough to know that North Brunswick needed this win to get themselves back on track. Justin Morgan doesn’t seem to be feeling any effects from his knee injury that sidelined him for a considerable amount of time. C.J. Brathwaite and Jeff Ashamole continue to lead the offensive attack, with Ricky Harris at the point. Let’s not forget Michael Cole, and the Raiders will need these kinds of contributions in the GMC Tournament next week.

First, it will be a pair of road games, when North Brunswick heads to Monroe (13-7), and then, it’s onto Edison (3-16) in a weekend battle. Being that the seedings for the counties are voted on this Friday morning, the game that North Brunswick has to concentrate on is Thursday’s with the Falcons. A victory could carry them a long way towards a home game in the first round. Keep in mind, North Brunswick did beat Monroe 55-50 at NBTHS on January 15th.
