PISCATAWAY, NJ–On Friday night, GMC Hoops traveled to the Rutgers Athletic Center to see the first night of action at the 2008 Prime Time Shooout. The featured matchup for the web site was between national hoops powerhouse, Oak Hill Academy from Virginia, and the second ranked Piscataway Chiefs, which just clinched their first Red Division title since 1995.

It wasn’t a good night for the GMC in this one as P-Way started out positively by drawing first blood, and only trailing 4-3 after just a 1:40 of play. However, the Warriors finally began to assert their will on the Chiefs with an 8-0 spurt for a 12-3 lead, and despite six first quarter points from senior forward J.D. Griggs, Piscataway was behind 20-7 after the period. In the second, P-Way showed some life by putting together a 7-4 run during the middle portion of the frame thanks to junior forward, Aaron Hush, who scored all seven points to pull his team to within a dozen at 26-14 with 4:49 to go before the intermission. However, from that point on until the end of the third quarter, the Virginia based school outscored the hometown team by a 32-9 margin for a commanding 58-23 lead, and went on to win easily 81-39.

Below are some video highlights from the contest including the player introductions, and some of the early action. Note: I was only able to shoot video until the 5:47 mark of the first quarter with Oak Hill leading by one at 4-3. At that point, I was informed by Rutgers personnel that I had to stop filming since RU doesn’t allow video footage from the stands at their athletic events.
