Middlesex County College Summer League–July 22, 2008

EDISON, NJ–Our South River Volunteer managed to head out to Middlesex County College on Tuesday night to take in the contest between the Rams, which were coming off an opening round victory over Blue Division rival Highland Park, and top seeded North Brunswick, which earned a first round bye. The Rams surprised their volunteer by hanging with the Raiders for the entire contest despite having only six players while North Brunswick had about 20.

In a very contentious game that saw emotions nearly spill over on several occasions, the Rams hung in all game against top-seeded North Brunswick. After trailing by 12 at the half, South River managed to cut the deficit to five points late in the game, but that’s the closest they would get. Brandon Walsh scored 12 points to pace the Rams – Sean Fenton also scored ten points or so for South River. Unfortunately, South River went cold at the most inopportune of times while the Raiders, which lost a throw in game to Keyport recently and after the seeds for the playoffs were determined, managed to pull out the win.
