South River Defeats Piscataway Tech In First GMC Crossover Game Of Season, 53-45

PISCATAWAY, NJ–In a total turn around from their opening game loss against Timothy Christian, the Rams played a solid four quarters in beating Piscataway Vo-Tech tonight by a score of 53-45 in the very first GMC Crossover Game of the 2008-09 season.

Brandon Walsh and Shawn Fenton led the way for the South River – both coming up with big games. Walsh scored a career high 22 points while Fenton had a triple double – 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

The Rams built up a 30-25 lead at the half only to see it dwindle to a one point (38-37) lead after three, with Fenton on the bench for most of the third quarter with three fouls.

South River saw their lead totally disappear early in the fourth quarter but rallied back behind some clutch shooting again by Walsh, and some big defensive rebounds from Fenton to come away with their first win of the season.

The Rams looked good tonight – again a complete turnaround from Saturday’s loss. Good ball handling, clutch shooting, good ball movement, good defense, physical play, and good play on the boards – but most of all, the Rams played “like a team” – something that has been lacking in the past.

And if South River continues to play like they did against the Raiders, they really have a good shot at winning the 2008 South Amboy Christmas Tournament on Friday and Saturday afternoons in South Amboy.

With Monday night’s win, the Rams even their overall record at 1-1 while Piscataway Tech falls to 0-1.
