MCC Summer League–July 2, 2009–South River Trounces Roselle Park

Rams Improve To 5-1 With Lopsided Win Over Roselle Park, 54-14

EDISON, NJ–In a Thursday night MCC Summer League match-up, the Rams of South River totally dominated the Roselle Park Panthers both on offensive and defense, easily coming away with an impressive 54-14 win.

Not much to report here other than what the final score indicates.

The Panthers were never in the game from the opening tip as the Rams had their fast break offense and dominating man to man defense clicking on all cylinders. Although this came against a largely JV Roselle Park team, you still had to be impressed at South River’s new style of play under Head Coach Rodney Harris. The Rams just flat out look very, very good. The players have definitely bought into the coaches’ new system and are responding to it. Hopefully this will carry over when South River opens their “real” season this December. I however see no reason why it won’t. The players are playing good, disciplined basketball and they can only continue to build on this fine play.

South River opened up a huge 37-9 lead at the half and limited the Panthers to only five points over the entire second half. It was simply no contest.

Again Harris freely substituted throughout the game, giving all his players a chance to contribute, and contribute they did. Brandon Walsh and Shawn Fenton hit for 15 points a piece to pace the Rams, while Xavier Foster chipped in with 8 points. Fellow Rams Louie Perez, Kevin Gilbert, and Briane Maine also added to the scoring.

With the win the Rams improve to 5-1 while Roselle Park drops to X-X. South River goes for win number six next Tuesday night at 8PM against South Hunterdon.
