Timothy Christian Boys Basketball Report–January 14, 2010

Continuing with our look at future members of the Greater Middlesex Conference, we now take a few moments to talk about the Tigers of Timothy Christian. TCS is currently a member of the Patriot Conference along with another future GMC school, Wardlaw-Hartridge. So far this season, the Tigers are 6-4 overall on the season including a blowout 84-53 victory on the road against Perth Amboy Tech back on December 22nd. Timothy Christian, which is based in Piscataway, also defeated Nottingham (60-53) back on December 21st.

Through ten games, the Tigers have averaged nearly 64 points per game while giving up about 51. The most recent game TCS has played was on January 12th when it lost at home against Academy Charter (65-55). The Tigers also lost to a Princeton Day team (49-44) that recently defeated Woodbridge over the holidays in the Hillsborough Holiday Classic. Timothy Christian also suffered a 75-60 setback at Bound Brook. Sophomore forward, Kristian Svendsen scored 30 plus points for the second time this season with 30 against Academy Charter. The other time he did that was when he poured in 35 against Dayspring Christian on opening night (80-28).

The Tigers started the season with five victories in their first six games before recently slipping with three losses in their last four games. Victories have included Dayspring Christian, Nottingham, Amboy Tech, Baptist Regional (79-42), Wardlaw (66-34), and E.B. Tech (58-49). Timothy Christian now plays in the Non-Public B South bracket, where they have qualified in each of the past three seasons. Last year, the Tigers lost to Mater Dei in the Quarterfinals (58-49) while two years ago they lost to eventual finalist St. Rose (66-49). In 2007, TCS made its first state tourney appearance, and lost to Gloucester Catholic (69-36).

Svendsen is averaging 20.5 points per game so far this season while Dan Decker has chipped in with 12 points per contest. T.J. Janho as added 10.2 points per game while David Bonamo has contributed with 8.9 per game. So far this season, Timothy Christian has gone 2-0 against teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference with a recent 58-49 victory over East Brunswick Tech in addition to its rout of Amboy Tech. The Tigers are scheduled to face GMC teams 11 more times this season including: East Brunswick (twice), Highland Park (twice), South Amboy (twice), South River, J.F. Kennedy, Middlesex, Piscataway Tech, and Amboy Tech. Last year, the Tigers were 6-3 against GMC foes.

So far this season, the Patriot Conference has a combined mark of 5-3 against teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference. Only Kennedy (67-20 win over Wardlaw), East Brunswick Tech (46-37 win over Wardlaw) and Piscataway (55-45 victory over Rutgers Prep) have won against Patriot Conference schools.
