Wardlaw Boys Basketball Report–January 14, 2010

In preparation of the expansion in the GMC Gold come next season, GMC Hoops will be putting together periodic reports on boys basketball with the Rams of Wardlaw-Hartridge. Currently, a member of the Patriot Conference, Wardlaw will be joining the GMC along with Timothy Christian next season. This season, the Rams have garnered a record of only 1-6, but have recently played competitively. On Wednesday, Wardlaw took on Patriot Conference rival, Rutgers Prep, and only lost 47-38. The Argonauts have played the likes of Colonia and Piscataway, and actually defeated the Pats (54-48) while losing to the Chiefs (55-45).

In the loss, Wardlaw was outscored in each of the first three periods as Malcolm McNeil led the way for the Argos with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the victory. Justen Davis led the Rams in defeat with 13 points on three field goals and 7 foul shots. Wardlaw got its only victory of the season over the holidays when it defeated Warren Tech (67-52) in the opening round of the East Brunswick Tech Tournament. However, the Rams lost to host school, E.B. Tech in the Championship (46-37). The Rams had a close loss on the road at Henry Hudson of Highlands back on January 6th (57-56). Davis recorded a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds in that contest.

So far this season, Wardlaw-Hartridge has averaged 39 points per game so far this season while giving up 59 per game. The Rams opened the season at home with a 69-20 loss to J.F. Kennedy. In that game, Davis accounted for half the team’s scoring with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Against Warren Tech, Davis came up with a monster double-double of 22 points and 19 rebounds while Ian English chipped in with 20 points, and Jordan Del Sol added 17. The Rams broke the game open with a 29-12 showing in the second quarter for a 39-22 lead. In the Championship Game of the E.B. Tech Tourney, English led the way in defeat with 14 points while Davis chipped in with 10.

The other two losses suffered by the Rams were against Montclair Kimberley (62-39) on January 8th and Timothy Christian (66-34) on January 5th. In the loss to MKA, English scored a game high 20 points while in the defeat to Timothy Christian, Davis had a team high 16 points. So far this season, Davis has averaged 13.6 points per game this season while English has scored 13.6 per contest as well. Jordan Del Sol has also helped out with 7.6 per game. So far this season, Wardlaw is 0-2 against teams from the GMC, and has at least eight more scheduled. Future opponents include Metuchen (January 16th), South River (January 20th), South Plainfield (January 23rd), Perth Amboy Tech (February 4th), Piscataway Tech (February 5th), South Amboy (February 8th), East Brunswick Tech (February 10th), and Dunellen (February 20th).
