Middlesex And Spotswood JV Play Nailbiter As Well

SPOTSWOOD, NJ–The varsity teams from Middlesex and Spotswood were not the only ones to get embroiled in a close contest. Prior to the main event, the two JV squads squared off in a hard fought battle. The Junior Chargers had a 48-40 lead with less than three minutes remaining when the Junior Jays rallied with a 5-0 spurt to pull within three at 48-45. Spotswood would get a score to get back up by five before Middlesex got a layup with 51.35 seconds left for a 50-47 score.

With the Junior Blue Jays fouling to force the Junior Chargers to the line, it stopped the clock and lengthened the game for Middlesex. Spotswood did get a three point play with 45.08 seconds left for a 53-47 lead, and then added another one of two from the line with 37.68 seconds to go for a 54-47 lead. Middlesex then made a jumper from the left wing at the 21.80 second mark to creep within five at 54-49, and connected on a three pointer with 3.85 seconds left for a 55-52 Spotswood lead. Then, the game took a controversial turn.

Dalonte Grant made the first of two foul shots for a 56-52 lead, but the Junior Chargers were then called for a technical foul with 2.35 seconds remaining. The Junior Blue Jays took advantage after Grant missed the second shot with two free throws for a 56-54 Spotswood lead. Middlesex then took the ball out of bounds, and had a chance at a last second shot, but it hit the front of the rim as time expired with the Junior Chargers coming away with the two point, 56-54 victory.
