Conway Becomes New Boys Hoops Coach At SPHS

Succeeds Bill Schulte As New Tigers Coach

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Late last week, GMC Hoops learned that Bob Conway became the new head boys basketball coach at South Plainfield High School. Conway was previously an assistant coach at SPHS since the 2004-05 season, and is the last link to the GMCT championship teams of 2004 and 2005. From 2006 to 2009, Conway coached the JV to four straight East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament berths. Last season, he coached the boys freshmen team, and guided them to a berth in the 2010 Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tournament. Conway succeeded Bill Schulte, who compiled a record of 48-73 in five seasons as head coach of the boys team. Under Schulte, South Plainfield made its last appearance in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament Final Four in 2007 before losing to eventual champion, Piscataway.
