2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–Some Results–Week Eight–November 1, 2010

NEPTUNE, NJ–On Monday night, GMC Hoops traveled down to the Hoop Group Headquarters to take in two contests from Showcase Games round in the fall league there. It was the eighth and final week of action in this league, and the site got to see two of the three GMC teams in the league in action as Cardinal McCarrick played in the 8:00 PM hour, and Old Bridge played in the 9:00 PM hour. The site also got results of five other games. Here are some of the results from some of the games played on Monday night.

2010 Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–Some Results–Week Eight–Showcase Games–November 1, 2010

  • G-Force 59–Old Bridge 53–Despite huge efforts from junior forward Isaiah Velez and sophomore forward, Sultan Aminu, the Old Bridge Knights fell to the G-Force Stallions for the second time this fall. Velez put in his best effort of the fall with 19 points on 9 of 16 shooting along with 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, an assist, and a steal. Aminu chipped in with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds as well as 4 steals, a block, and an assist. OBHS was only 23 of 60 from the floor including 3 of 13 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, G-Force, led by former Bishop Ahr standout, Rob Gomulka, who had a game high 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting including a perfect 3 of 3 from long distance, shot 22 of 54 from the floor including 7 of 15 from downtown. Gomulka also added 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in the win. The Knights outrebounded G-Force by a margin of 39-29 including a 20-10 edge on the offensive glass, and a 15-8 advantage in second chance points. Trailing 46-41 with 7:42 to play, G-Force went on a decisive 11-0 run over a span of 3:35 to take a 52-46 lead with 4:07 to play. The Stallions then led by as many as eight down the stretch.
  • Cardinal McCarrick 51–Colts Neck 44–The Eagles had more of a struggle against the Cougars this time around, but they still came away with the victory to finish the fall undefeated. Charlie Gorman scored 21 points over the final 30:14 of the contest including four three pointers. Two of those treys came down the stretch to give McCarrick a 47-38 lead with 4:31 left. Colts Neck, which trailed by a score of 24-18 with 3:58 to go in the first half, went on a 12-3 tear over a span of 8:08 to take a 30-27 lead with 15:50 remaining. The Eagles went on a 20-8 surge over the next 11:19 to take the nine point lead late. Marques Townes and Ahmid Williams added six points during the final 30 plus minutes while Robert Nunez had four points and Jeremy Cruz had two.
