2010 Immaculata Fall League–Week Eight–Some Results–November 14th

SOMERVILLE, NJ–On Sunday night, GMC Hoops returned to Immaculata High School to take in some of the action from the eighth and final night of the second annual Immaculata Fall League. The site saw two of the five games played at IHS, and both involved GMC teams. The GMC split the contests that we saw. Below are the results from the two contests:

2010 Immaculata Fall League–Week Eight–Some Results

  • St. Joseph’s-White 50–Hillsborough 41–St. Joe’s-White put an end to Hillsborough’s five game winning streak by pulling away from a 41-39 lead with 1:42 left with a 9-2 spurt to finish the game for the nine point victory. Kevin Waitikovich scored a layup at the 1:30 mark to ignite the run for a 43-39 lead. The Falcons were 5 of 6 from the foul line over the last 41 seconds of the contest including two free throws by Quenton DeCosey, one of two from the line by James Ziemba at the 25 second mark, and two charity shots by Jimbo Long with 13 seconds left.
  • Franklin 59–Middlesex 38–The Warriors ended the first half strong with a 15-4 tear over the last 10:50 to turn a 14-13 deficit into a 28-18 lead at the intermission. After Dave Schenck opened the second half scoring with one of two from the line, Franklin picked up where they left off in the first half with a 6-0 run over a span of 2:35 to take a 34-19 lead. From there, the Warriors coasted to a 23 point lead at one point in the second half en route to a 59-38 victory. FHS scored 20 points off of 17 Middlesex turnovers , and 15 second chance points off of 19 offensive rebounds. Middlesex scored 13 points off of 15 Franklin turnovers, and got a superb performance from Chris Winkleman, who was 6 of 11 overall from the field including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc for 17 points along with 2 rebounds and a steal. Schenck chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist as he and Winkleman accounted for 66 percent of the Blue Jays scoring. Franklin was only 25 of 64 from the floor, but Middlesex was 14 of 52 from the floor. The Warriors also blocked seven MHS shots while outrebounding the Jays by a 41-24 margin. The Blue Jays did outscore Franklin by an 18-12 margin from long distance.
