Shore Lengthens Its Season Lead Against GMC

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On the eve of week eleven of the 2010 GMC Gridiron season and the semifinal round of the state playoffs, GMC Gridiron took a look at how the Greater Middlesex Conference was performing against the Shore Conference this season. Last year, the GMC was 24-40 overall against the Shore. However, through the first 43 games this year, the league has been much more competitive. The Shore has increased its lead to 25-18 so far this season. Since Week #7, the Shore has won 13 of the last 20 meetings between the two conferences.

Breaking things down by division, the GMC Red is 3-4 against Shore Opponents this year while the GMC White is 4-9, and the GMC Blue is 11-12. Middlesex and Dunellen lead the way for the GMC Blue and the entire conference with 3-0 marks while Cardinal McCarrick is 2-1. Spotswood (2-2) and East Brunswick (1-1) were .500. Highland Park was 0-4 while Metuchen and New Brunswick were 0-3. The Shore teams have outscored the GMC by a margin of 1015-701 though, or an average of 23.6 to 16.3 per contest. The Shore now also has more shutouts though (9-7). Over the past 20 games, the Shore Conference has outscored the GMC by a margin of 545-365, or an average of 27.3 to 18.3 per game including a 5-2 edge in shutouts.

Some notable wins by the GMC so far this year included Sayreville defeating Toms River East (16-0) on September 18th, East Brunswick knocked off Howell last week (21-13), and Carteret upsetting Keyport/Henry Hudson (31-28) on October 22nd. Last weekend in the various state tournament and consolation games, the Shore went 4-1 against GMC opponents with two shutouts. The Greater Middlesex Conference has a chance to redeem itself this weekend with three games against Shore foes including Sayreville vs. Manalapan and North Brunswick at Brick Memorial in CJ Group IV, and Carteret at Rumson-Fair Haven in CJ Group II all on Friday night.
