Former Ahr Standout Francisco Stepping Up At Philadelphia U.

Woodbridge Native Off To Strong Start For Rams Including All Tournament Team Honors In Wolf Line Bus Tourney

PHILADELPHIA, PA–It has taken two years, but after a lot of hard work, dedication, and determination, former Bishop Ahr standout, Corey Francisco is coming into his own and stepping up for the Rams of Philadelphia University. Francisco, a junior, and a captain on this year’s Philly U. squad, has played and started all seven games so far for the Rams. He is averaging 37 minutes per game, 11.4 points per game (2nd on team), 7.4 rebounds per game (1st on team), and 3.1 assists per game (tied for 1st on the team).

Through seven games, Francisco, a four year starter at Bishop Ahr, has connected on 33 of 68 shots from the floor for 48.5 perecent including 5 of 18 from three while also making 9 of 14 from the line. He is also third on the team in blocked shots. In the recent Wolf Line Bus Tournament at Shippensburg University, Francisco earned All Tournament Team honors by averaging 16.5 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game in the two contest including a 20 point performance in a 68-55 victory over the host school Shippensburg. On December 1st, Francisco registered a game high 17 rebounds while scoring 12 points for a double-double in a 74-55 win over Goldey Beacom College. So far this season, Philadephia University is 4-3 overall including a 1-0 mark in CACC play.

Last year, as a sophomore, Francisco played in 33 games including five starts, and averaged 15.2 minutes per game, 4.6 points per game and 1.9 rebounds per game. He connected on 61 of 137 shot attempts for 44.5 percent including 16 of 57 three pointers for 28.1 percent while making 15 of 20 from the free throw line for 75 percent. The Rams went 27-8 last year, and reached the CACC semifinals before bowing out to eventual champion, Felician (led by South Brunswick’s Devon Young). Philadelphia University was 16-1 in conference play in 2009-10, and reached the Division II Eastern Regional Championship before losing to Bentley (81-69) of the Northeast 10. En route to the finals appearance, Philly U. defeated top seeded Stonehill led by Monroe’s A.J. Rudowitz (71-69).

Philadelphia University plays Felician in a rematch in Rutherford on Saturday, January 8th. The Rams will also play host to Caldwell College in North Philly on February 5th at 2:00 PM, and visit New Jersey again on Feburary 12th when they meet Bloomfield College. See the team’s schedule.
