Latest Snowstorm Doesn’t Hamper Friday GMC Schedule

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Despite another round of snow for the Central Jersey area, many of the area schools were open on Friday. Of the 31 schools that play boys basketball in the GMC, only St. Joseph’s and Cardinal McCarrick were closed. In addition, none of the games scheduled for tonight were moved up or cancelled altogether. So, GMC Hoops will be at Middlesex High School to see the Blue Jays take on the Mustangs in a GMC Blue Division tilt.

J.F. Kennedy has been hampered by the tough winter. Coming into this week, the Mustangs had only played two games in 25 days. Then, JFK suffered another postponement on Tuesday when it was scheduled to play Point Pleasant Boro of Ocean County. Kennedy is 5-2 on the season, and is ranked ninth in the most recent GMC Hoops Top Ten. Meanwhile, Middlesex is 5-4 after knocking off Carteret on Wednesday night (52-42). The Blue Jays had lost four straight before that.

This is the fifth time this season that wintry weather has played havoc with the GMC boys basketball schedule. All of this has come since the day after Christmas when a powerful blizzard hit the Garden State hard kicking off what has been a vicious winter. To add insult to injury, the coldest weather of the season is forecast to move into Middlesex County over the next few days with low temperatures at or near zero on Monday morning. Next chance for snow is Tuesday. See the full schedule of games for Friday.
