Big Day For GMC White In Play-In Round On Saturday

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–After struggling for much of the season, the GMC White Division has bounced back in crossover games.  At one point the division was in last place in the GMC Hoops Conference Cup standings, which rewards the four divisions of the GMC based upon their performance in crossover games against teams in the other GMC divisions.

The teams in the White are a combined 8-1 over their last nine games after a 7-13 start.  Included in that streak was a 4-0 mark in yesterday’s GMCT Play-In round games.  Monroe defeated South Amboy (63-36), South Plainfield defeated Old Bridge (73-69), Sayreville defeated East Brunswick Tech (76-61), and Edison downed Timothy Christian (52-31).  With the recent success, the teams in the White Division are a combined 15-14 overall in crossover games, which puts them in second place in the conference cup standings with 16 points.

Here is a breakdown of how all the divisions did yesterday in the GMCT Play-In Round:

  • White Division (4-0)
  • Blue Division (1-0)
  • Gold Division (1-4)
  • Red Division (0-2)

Teams in the White that have done particularly well in crossovers this year are:  Sayreville (4-2), North Brunswick (2-1), and New Brunswick (2-1).  Edison is (3-2) while South Plainfield is (2-2).  After claiming the honor as best division in the GMC for the past several seasons, the White took a step back this year with Colonia moving up to the Red, Carteret moving down to the Blue, and Monroe undergoing significant changes with losses due to graduation, a new coach, and two key players transferring out.
