GMC Hoops Play-By-Play–East Brunswick vs. South Plainfield–Perth Amboy Freshmen Tournament Semifinals–Second Half

PERTH AMBOY, NJ–On Tuesday, GMC Hoops traveled over to Perth Amboy High School to take in the Perth Amboy/GMC Freshmen Tournament Final Four. I lost battery power to my wireless device so I couldn’t provide further updates on Facebook. However, I did jot down some notes from the second half of action from the second semifinal between sixth seeded East Brunswick and second seeded South Plainfield.

Third Quarter

7:14 to go in the third….South Plainfield is up 27-17.  EB made one of two at the line got another score to close the gap to ten.

5:16 to go in the third–timeout..EB on a 10-4 run to close gap to 31-25.  Genco had a putback and Belgrave scored a couple layups.

3:33 to go in the third–timeout SP…EB outscores SP by a 5-4 margin including two free throws by Joey Gudzak and a three from the left wing by Genco for a 35-30 Little Tigers lead.

1:33 to go in the third–EB just got two free throws from Belgrave for a 39-35 SP lead.  The Little Tigers had two one of two showings from the foul line on technicals including one by Jordan Lackey.

0:00–reach the end of the third quarter, and EB now trails by only one at 39-38 after a one of two showing at the foul line by Belgrave, and a floater by Gudzak that rolled in.  Little Bears have outscored the Little Tigers by a 38-28 margin over the middle two periods.


 

Fourth Quarter

 

5:12–SP now leads 42-38 after a three point play by Robert Eggert.

4:43–SP–#34 at the line–Aidan McDermott–missed the first foul shot–EB calls a timeout.  McDermott makes the second–43-38 lead.

4:30–SP–McDermott gets the rebound and is fouled at the other end…Little Tigers now in double bonus…McDermott makes one of two for a 44-38 lead.

3:50–SP calls for a full timeout.

3:45–SP–Lackey takes inbounds…draws foul on the drive, and makes a pair of foul shots for a 46-38 lead.

3:06–After an EB score, McDermott gets an offensive board off his own miss, and draws a foul for a one of two showing, and a 47-40 SP lead.

2:52–EB–Nick Sottolano draws foul on jumper…misses both but Gudzak gets the rebound.  Can’t score though.

2:21–SP–Robert Eggert–pulls up for short jumper from left side in transition for a 49-40 lead.

2:10–EB–Nick Sottolano makes first–misses second–South Plainfield called for a lane violation–Sottolano shoots again…makes it for a 49-42 SP lead.

1:35–EB–Summerer at the line after getting an offensive rebound, and drawing the foul on the follow attempt…makes both…SPHS leads 49-44.  Timeout is called.

1:15–EB–Gets a score by Cody Burnham from the left low block after McDermott missed a shot for SP at the other end…49-46 SPHS.

1:09–SP–Malik Cisson misses both free throws.

0:42–EB–Joey Gudzak just misses a three from the left wing…Cisson draws foul.for SP…makes one of two at the line for a 50-46 lead.

0:26–EB–Belgrave drives in from right side for layup, and 50-48 SP lead..

0:24–EB–full timeout….when teams came back out on the floor…SP called a full timeout.

0:20–SP–Cisson fouled–makes one of two…Romelo Monroe gets the rebound, and is fouled…misses both.

0:12–SP–Chris Mathis forces turnover.

0:11–SP–Mathis fouled–misses both, but Monroe gets the offensive board, and is fouled.  

0:07–SP–Monroe makes one of two from the line.

0:00–EB–Sottolano misses three from left wing…Little Tigers win 52-48.
