GMC Hoops Play-By-Play–South Brunswick vs. Piscataway–GMCT Quarterfinals–February 20, 2011

EDISON, NJ–Here are the notes and some play-by-play from the final GMCT Quarterfinal round game played between South Brunswick and Piscataway at Middlesex County College on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings gave the Chiefs all that they could handle by pulling within a point at 31-30 with 11.1 seconds left in the third on a three by Mike Green, but Piscataway got a three from Greg Davis as time ran out in the frame for a 34-30 lead. In the final period, the Chiefs, which led by as many as a dozen late in the contest, came up with a 18-13 showing for the 52-43 victory.

First Quarter

4:49–South Brunswick calls a 30 second timeout after Jelani Jackson hit a three pointer from the right wing for a 7-0 P-Way lead.  Sharpe made two free throws at the 5:19 mark, and Jackson got the first points of the game on a jumper at the 6:30 mark.  Chiefs also got a couple blocks including one by Sharpe.

0:00–Piscataway takes a 9-0 lead after the Chiefs get a score off a steal by Sharpe.   Kory Sanders gets the Vikings on the board when he was fouled on a three point attempt.  He made all three free throws, and then Mike Green sank one of two before Sanders got to the line again for another pair, and a 9-6 P-Way lead.  David White sank a jumper at the 1:45 mark for an 11-6 lead before the Vikings got their first field goal of the game at the 1:25 mark for an 11-8 score.  Sanders got 7 of SBHS points in the period including 5 of 5 from the foul line.


Second Quarter

7:16–SB–Strickland draws a foul and makes a shot, but misses the bonus free throw for an 11-10 P-Way lead.

6:40–P-Way–Called a 30 second timeout.

6:26–P-Way–Jackson makes a nice pass to Vijay Singh in the left low block for a layup, and a 13-10 edge.

3:01–We had a stop in the action with P-Way still leading 17-15 after a three pointer from the left wing by Sanders.  The Chiefs had taken a 17-10 lead on a layup by Temi Adebayo, and a floater from the right side by Jackson that got a kind bounce.

0:00–P-Way gets a three pointer from the left corner by Greg Davis as time ran out for a 22-19 lead at the intermission.  South Brunswick had tied the score on a conventional three point play by Chris Bourne, who got an offensive rebound, and put it back in to tie the score at 19-19.  


 

Third Quarter

6:14–P-Way gets a three pointer from Jelani Jackson for a 25-19 lead.

0:00–P-Way gets a three pointer from the right side by Davis for a 34-30 lead. The Chiefs had taken a 31-25 lead on a three pointer by White at the 1:09 mark, but T.J. Taylor drove in for a layin as he was fouled at the 48.7 second mark, and then Mike Green sank a three from the right wing with 11.1 seconds to go for a 31-30 P-Way advantage.  Before that, Sanders and Tajae Sharpe had exchanged threes for a 28-25 Chiefs lead.


 

Fourth Quarter

6:49–Jackson finds a crease on the right side, and drives in for a layup and a 38-30 lead.  

6:16–P-Way–Tajae Sharpe pulls up for a jumper from right side for a 40-30 lead.

5:46–SB–Sanders gets the rebound of a P-Way missed shot, leads the break, and dishes to Green, who slashes in for a layup to follow another Chiefs score for a 42-34 P-Way lead.

5:17–timeout.

4:54–SB–Bourne to Green for a layin, and a 42-36 P-Way lead.

4:46–SB–Green called for a foul

3:49–P-Way–Davis draws foul, and makes both free throws for a 44-36 lead.

3:40–timeout.

2:43–SB–Bourne scores on a follow for a 44-38 P-Way lead.

1:39–P-Way–Jackson fouled by Sanders–Chiefs in bonus.  Jackson makes both for a 46-38 lead.

1:21–P-Way–after Sanders hits back iron on three point attempt, Danny Cole gets rebound, and draws foul.  Cole sinks both for a 48-38 lead.

1:11–P-Way–after Green weaved through traffic for a layup attempt, Cole got the rebound, and the ball eventually got to Sharpe, who was fouled.  He missed the front end of the one and one.

49.2–P-Way–Diallo makes one of two as the Chiefs are in the double-bonus.

31.3–P-Way–Jackson is fouled, and makes one of two for a 50-38 lead.

22.8–SB–Green fouled on a putback attempt, and makes one of two.

20.4–SB–Bourne gets offensive board on missed second free throw by Green, and puts in follow for a 50-41 P-Way lead.  Timeout Vikings.

11.5–P-Way–Thierno Diallo passes up court to Davis, who tap passes to Sharpe for a 52-41 lead.

0.0–SB gets score to end game with P-Way returning to the GMCT Final Four for the fourth time in the past five years.
