Big Day For GMC Teams On Day Two Of Summer Prime Time Shootout

Big Three From GMC Red Go A Combined 5-1 On Showcase’s Second Day

ALLENTOWN, NJ–The Red Division will be another dogfight in 2011-12 with the likes of St. Joseph’s, Piscataway, and East Brunswick, and there may be some sectional gold down the road for one of these three teams if not more come March. All three squads made nice impressions on the second day of action at the 2011 Summer Prime Time Shootout at Allentown High School in the Upper Freehold district of Monmouth County.

After going 0-2 with a tough last minute loss to Eastern (42-41) and a defeat to Trenton Catholic (49-37) on Friday, East Brunswick rebounded nicely with victories over Cherry Hill East (50-47) and Plymouth-Whitemarsh of Pennsylvania (54-37) to finish up at 2-2 in the event. Meanwhile, Piscataway also played earlier in the day, and did well with two victories. The Chiefs, which went an undefeated 4-0 in the event last summer, defeated Lakewood (39-29) and Cherry Hill East (50-38).

The only blemish for the conference on this day was from GMCT champion, St. Joseph’s, which lost a hard fought battle to Plainfield (38-34). The Falcons rebounded later on in the evening on Saturday with a 47-31 victory over Ewing of the Colonial Valley Conference as they connected on seven threes and got 11 points each from Quenton DeCosey, Danny Brix, and Jimbo Long. Both P-Way and St. Joe’s will be back in action on Sunday with the Chiefs taking on Hyde of Connecticut at 4:00 PM and Rancocas Valley at 6:00 PM. P-Way and Rancocas will be taking on each other since the Red Devils defeated the Chiefs in the Group IV title game in 2008.

Meanwhile, St. Joe’s has a very challenging day ahead of itself on Sunday. First, the Falcons will be taking on St. Patrick’s of Elizabeth at high noon in the East Gym. Then, after an hour respite, the Green Birds will be taking on St. Benedict’s at 2:00 PM in the West Gym. Over the first two days of the event, the Greater Middlesex Conference squads have gone a combined 5-3, and have averaged 44 points per game while giving up just under 39 per contest.

Last season, EB, P-Way, and St. Joe’s all finished in a three way tie for first place in the GMC Red with the Chiefs and Falcons getting the top two seeds in the GMCT while the Bears earned the fourth seed.
