GMC Hoops Game Notes–Colonia @ Perth Amboy–December 20, 2011

PERTH AMBOY, NJ–On Tuesday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Perth Amboy High School after work to take in the second half of the Red Division contest between the Panthers and Colonia. The Patriots led 24-13 at the half, and increased the lead to 31-17 in the third.

Then, late in the third period after David Rogers converted a conventional three point play for Amboy, Jordan McDaniel struck for three to end the frame, and opened the fourth with Colonia’s first nine points to help the Pats take a commanding 43-24 lead en route to a 50-35 win.

McDaniel, who also scored the first eight points of the game for Colonia, ended up with a game high 22 points while freshman guard James Corbett added 10 points. Perth Amboy got seven points apiece from David Rogers, Angel Torres, and Marquis Irizarry. Below are some game notes from the contest.

First Half

Colonia leads 24-13 at the intermission.


Third Quarter

3:18–Colonia calls a 30 second timeout after Amboy steals an errant pass by Jordan McDaniel and draws a foul on the layup attempt.  David Rogers just had a nice block for the Panthers.  The Patriots lead 31-17 on a 7-4 start to the second half.  Amboy misses both free throws after the timeout.

1:19–Colonia calls another 30 second timeout after the Pats get on the floor to get a loose ball.  Rogers helps Amboy get closer with a conventional three point play at the 2:04 mark for a 31-20 Colonia lead.

0:00–Quarter ends with Colonia on top 34-20.   McDaaniel connected on a three pointer from the right corner with 1:02 remaining in the period to put the Patriots back up by 14.


Fourth Quarter

7:27–Perth Amboy calls timeout.  Colonia goes to McDaniel to open the period on the senior forward delivers by  converting a traditional three point play at the 7:50 mark, and scoring again down low from the right side at the 7:29 mark for a 39-20 lead.

3:10–Perth Amboy calls for a full timeout–After the Panthers got a three pointer to get on the board with 7:06 remaining, McDaniel picked up two more scores at the 6:53 and 5:45 marks respectively.  McDaniel scored the 12 straight points for Colonia for a 43-23 lead.  The Panthers responded with a 7-5 run including one of two free throws by Rogers, and several layups, but the Pats still lead 48-30.

0:00–Colonia wins 50-35.  The Patriots got a layup from #4 at about the one minute mark before the diminutive Marquise Irizarry scored the last five points of the contest with a three pointer and a short bank shot from the right side.
