GMC Hoops Game Notes–Piscataway Tech @ Timothy Christian–Early Season Gold Division Showdown–December 21,2011

PISCATAWAY, NJ–In the second game of the GMC Hoops Gold Division Doubleheader, the site traveled over to the Timothy Christian School to take in the early season Gold Division Showdown between Piscataway Tech and Timothy Christian. TCS came into the game with three straight wins to start the season while P-Way Tech won its first two contests by an average margin of 25 points per game. For three plus quarters, the Tigers did their best to hang in, but the Raiders pulled away from a 32-23 lead early in the fourth with a 14-2 tear to win 46-25. Below are the notes from the final two periods of play.

First Hallf

Piscataway Tech leads 14-11 at halftime.


Third Quarter

7:23–TCS–timeout–Piscataway Tech leads 16-11 after two free throws by Turell McClendon.  The Tigers called for time after both teams got on the floor for a loose ball.

1:29–TCS–timeout–Piscataway Tech leads 29-19.  The Raiders have outscored Timothy Christian by a 15-8 margin so far in the period.   Dan Decker has accounted for all the TCS scoring with a three pointer from the right wing at the 5:15 mark, a layup at the 4:28 mark, and a three point play at the 2:29 mark.  The Tigers have hung tough while P-Way Tech has had lapses in concentration.  

However, PVT has too much size and talent.  They have also executed well in transition with layups by Tafari Kerr and Galen Smith while Khairi Mosely hit a three pointer from the right wing.  Will Joyce connected on a pair of free throws at the 5:59 mark.  Smith also converted a three point play.

0:00–Quarter ended with P-Way Tech leading 29-21 after Kristian Svendsen scored a layup at the 21 second mark.


Fourth Quarter

6:00–TCS calls timeout–PVT leads 32-21 after McClendon made free throw.  The Raiders had a chance to get more points earlier, but Kerr missed a dunk.

4:50–PVT–calls timeout after a wild sequence where TCS missed three chances to score.  Joyce had a block on one of the shots while Svendsden couldn’t get a layup to roll in.  #10 had two free throws for the Tigers to close the gap to 32-23.

2:49–TCS–timeout–Piscataway Tech on a 9-0 run including a steal for a layup and a three point play by Smith at the 3:43 mark, a pair of free throws after a flagrant foul on Smith at the 3:33 mark, and two free throws by McClendon at the 2:59 mark for a 41-23 lead.

2:33–PVT–McClendon fouled again, and makes both FTs for a 43-23 lead.  

2:15–TCS–Svendsen draws foul, and makes two FTs for his first two points of the quarter.  PVT leads 43-25.

1:49–PVT–Smith leaves the game after making one of two from the line for a 44-25 lead.

14.9–PVT–Raiders put in a couple more from the bench with a 46-25 lead.

0.0–PVT wins 46-25.  End the game with a 32-14 showing in the second half including a 14-2 spurt in the last 4:50.  TCS was held without a field goal over the last 8:21 of the contest, and had only four field goals in the second half.  Decker and Svendsen accounted for 86 percent of the TCS scoring in the second half, but only combined for one field goal in the last 10:29 of the game.
