GMC White Showdown Overseas

Former Monroe Standout Rudowitz Clashes With Former South Plainfield Standout Jones In German League

WOLFENBUETTEL, GERMANY–Last week two former GMC standouts went head to head in a German League basketball contest. A.J. Rudowitz, the all time leading scorer at Monroe led his Vechta team against Marquis Jones, the all time leading scorer at South Plainfield and his team from Wolfenbuettel.

Both Rudowitz and Jones squared off against each other back in high school. Monroe and South Plainfield went at it for several seasons when the Tigers were in the midst of their three year run with at least a share of the GMC White crown. The Tigers got the best of those games back then, but this time it was a little different.

Despite Jones collecting a game high 22 points along with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, Vechta was still able to prevail thanks in part to Rudowitz. The Stonehill graduate made 6 of 10 shots from the floor, and 5 of 7 from the foul line for 17 points along with 8 rebounds to help Vechta gain a 91-78 victory. Earlier this season, Rudowitz scored 33 points against Wolfenbuettel. To date, he has played in 17 games, is averaging 29 minutes, 14.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game for Vechta.

Meanwhile, Jones has played in 9 games for Wolfenbuettel, and is averaging 30.5 minutes, 18.4 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals. Jones joined the team back in November. Special thanks to Monroe’s Scott Basarab for providing the info.
