GMC Hoops Game Notes–Wardlaw @ Old Bridge–GMCT Play-In Round–February 11, 2012

OLD BRIDGE, NJ–The finale of the GMC Hoops Play-In round tripleheader round robin was at Old Bridge High School where the Knights rolled to an easy 64-36 win. The game was all but over when I got there as the Knights surged to a 31 point halftime lead, and raised their edge to 35 points midway through the third. Wardlaw finished the game with an 11-4 showing to make the game more respectable. Here are game notes from the last 12:15 of the contest.

First Half

Old Bridge led 46-15 at the half after outscoring Wardlaw by a 26-6 margin in the first period, and a 20-9 margin in the second period.

Third Quarter

Arrive with 4:15 to go in the third quarter, and the game was already in hand as Old Bridge had a 60-25 lead.  OBHS opened the second half with 14-10 run.  Freshman John Pohopin netted one of two from the line a short time later for the only points the rest of the period as the Knights took a 60-26 lead into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

Not a lot of offense in the early part of the quarter as the Rams got the only scoring on one of two from the line by Justen Davis before Old Bridge called for time at the 5:52 mark of the fourth with a 60-27 lead.

Following the timeout, the Rams tried to make the game more respectable with an 8-2 run over the next 3:26 that included two free throws by Matt Rosado, a short jumper in the paint by Davis, a drive for a layup by Jordan Del Sol, and an acrobatic move for a layup by Rosado to make it a 62-35 OB lead as the Knights called for time with 2:26 left.

Old Bridge would get a layin underneath before Davis closed out the scoring with one of two from the line with 53 seconds left as the Knights won 64-36.  The Knights played some of the reserves over much of the final 12:15 of the game, and only had one field goal during that stretch.
