Here are some video highlights from the second half and overtime of top seeded Lakewood’s 70-65 victory over 8th seeded New Brunswick in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III State Tournament. The Piners had a 39-28 lead with 7:15 to go in the third quarter when New Brunswick rallied back with a 33-17 surge over about a 15 minute span for a 61-56 lead with two minutes remaining in regulation.
The Zebras had opened up the fourth with a 14-3 tear to take a 55-52 lead as Za’Kry Shivers connected on a three from the right corner to cap the run for the lead. Shivers and Samaad Thomas added pairs of free throws to raise the lead up to five. However, Lakewood rallied back with the last five points of regulation including a three that banked in with 53.62 seconds left, and a putback with 15 seconds left for a 61-61 tie.
After forcing the game to overtime, the Piners scored the first four points of the extra session before New Brunswick rallied back again with two foul shots by Thomas, and a driving layup by Shivers to tie the game at 65-65 with two minutes left. Lakewood would pull the game out with a basket and 3 of 5 from the foul line for the five point win to advance to play fourth seeded Manasquan in the semifinals.
